MONKEY PUZZLE

As part of an ongoing collaboration with SEHUBABE fashion design I was invited to make an exhibition in Liege, Belgium. Five days of making art and celebrating life Belgium style.

Beautiful people, food and beer. Liege is a special little place with a river running through gothic streets. The guys who run SEHUBABE love to boogie and showed me a real good time. They are making some amazing things you can check them out at www.sehubabe.com

"MONKEY PUZZLE"

The text for the show was written by Dan Van Der Noon.

"The project's title of Monkey Puzzle, is dissolved into innovative paintings, drawings and illustrations loaded with symbols, patterns and language that visually articulate human restrictions and limitations emotionally, mentally and physically. David's work creates a contrast in this sense, through depicting our endless quarries of knowledge, abilities and skills within a border or limited space often representative of the body and mind. This contrast gives rise to the idea that we are essentially confined to the self and so combats anthropocentrism through illuminating the point that although the layers of our psychological make-up and indeed the biological self, appear to be at the height of complexity, we cannot climb beyond, out, or deeper. Such conceptual heights or depths, are unreachable, unattainable, impossible and so the project successfully draws on this analogy, that like our intelligent evolutionary primate cousins glancing in confusion up to the monkey puzzle tree, we too stand perplexed, limited to venture beyond our very selves."

The exhibition was located in an old building. art upstairs and a bar and club downstairs.

During the first few days I completed a wall mural.
