Book making at La Cour de Husson.
I was invited by La Cour de Husson aka veganfrenchlife to teach at their art retreat. I spent a week in September making sketchbooks with a group of brilliant Humans, discussing creative flow and experimenting with a variety of materials and processes such as cyanotypes, plasticine stamps and collage and writing techniques. By the end of residency we had also collaborated on a large piece which combined all the things we had discussed and practiced during the residency.
I love making books. Every time I teach others to make books I realise again how therapeutic it can be. Without trying too hard, the process brings people together and a kind of creative communion happens; people share thoughts and feeling, we learn at the same pace and we learn from one another. The books become the main characters and we become a band of book-makers, eager to explore and discover ways of filling and using the book. I am so grateful to veganfrenchlife for inviting me and making the week so fun, relaxed and of course feeding us with the most incredible food.
